Jill made me aware of an antique hydroplane site on the web. I also went through a photo album I made for my parents years ago and found photos of both couples posed in front of Joe's boat, the "Guess Who", with Clay sitting on the Hull.

The boat had a "Woody Woodpecker" painted on the hood. To this day I don't know if Clay or Joe came up with the Woody idea. But I have been told that Clay had shocking red hair. Joe's boat was beautiful and so I painted this car as a tribute to him.

About the Clay Smith: There is no real story behind this car, except, it is a car I like the look of.

It's created from the Bantom Midget plan. When I was starting to paint and finish the car an old friend named Jill Guess called to check on my Mom's condition. My Mom is in a nursing home by my brother's home.

My Mom and my Dad were great friends with Jill's parents. Joe Guess ran race boats like my Dad. Joe had Kieth Black build his engines. Clay worked for Kieth before he became known for his genius with engines. My Dad said that Clay talked to engines to find out what they needed.
