About the Willy Midget: "Willy", the original, or, my first car finished 1/8 scale, 9" wheelbase. The full size Bantam plan calls for a 13" wheelbase

This is the second car I started, but the first car I finished. The set of plans for this car is the one called Bantam Midget on the page (with the Big 1/4 scale red car marked #3) This model was scaled down on my first car to match the tires I found on Canal Street in New York City. The wheelbase was reduced to 9" and the tires I found were from Dubro? Not too sure. Later I found out this tire is still available through any hobby shop.

I still like this design, but I use the full size car at 13" long wheel base. I have since made molds to make the bigger tires. The backs are about 4"diam., the fronts are about 20% smaller. In fact I use the Plan to make other models and just modify other body types because I like the overall size.

I have made frames in oak, mahogany, acrylic, aluminum and brass. I like brass over aluminum because you can always modify parts by soldering something on, or milling material off.
I like brass better but aluminum is used on the real engines
and it looks right on the model parts.

After making a couple of these I made a few different molds so I could make them better. I scaled the 1/8 Offy plans up to fit the tether-size cars with the 13" wheelbase. I generally use either brass or aluminum depending if it needs pieces soldered on, or if needs to be chromed or polished.
