About the 1/8 scale Kunz Midget, the Wendy Barille Special: This is the second car I made.

The year I went to Hershey I found two items that started me making model cars. Besides the Tether car stuff I got, I found the information on the republished works of Raymond Kunz. Mr. Kunz wrote a lot about "building Race cars" at that time.

What was real interesting to me were the drawings he did that showed you how to modify model T and model A stock parts and build your own Race Car at the time. I found I was constantly referring to this book until I had ripped it apart.

I really related to the the information, because it was the same way I had built my first Hot Rod. Back then I was taught to draw it out on the shop floor with chalk and weld in place. The arc welding would overheat the concrete and it would explode in your face . . . an arc welder and a big hammer to knock it back in place.

. . . I just was reminded of a quote someone wrote about how the cost of this type of model must be close to building the real car. Then he corrected himself - but it's the truth. I could build a full size Hot Rod faster. I can't buy any of the thousands of

parts - I need to build everything from scratch; only on a few of my "Ed Roth" type cars could I buy the engine.

So, more fun for me!
