About the Lighthouse Sign Special Kurtis Midget: Kurtis Kraft was one of the first manufacturers of race cars. It was a Glendale firm. In the 50's you could order an Offy or Ford 60 version practically over the phone.

A good friend of mine, Al Novatnick, got me this set of plans of the Kurtis Midget. On these plans there are two slightly different profiles. One is for the Offy Midget Engine and the other for the Ford 60 - another popular race engine of the day. This is one of the reasons I'm interested in these cars today.

My Dad was a truck mechanic and an avid boat racer of the 50s. He was also known for his knowledge on making the Ford 60 fast. One year his boat and engines ran 1, 2 & 3, winning the National Championships first three places.

Also one of the popular Midget frames was a modified model "A" or "T" frame. I used the same type of frame on my first "T" Hot Rod.

I never raced but I became close to these types of cars (from a mechanical side).

The Kurtis Offy was the winning combination for Midgets of the Era and beyond. Harry Miller influence dominated racing for the next fifty years.
